Is this purely mechanical running on the cans pressure or is there electronics?

It is electronic: RoboCap uses a solenoid valve to dose paint in short controlled pulses. The spray can still provides the paint pressure; the electronics control when the internal valve opens and closes.

It can work with lower-pressure cans, but the result depends on actual can pressure, paint, selected tip, distance and movement speed. If pressure becomes too low, the pattern/line will naturally change.

RoboCap is made for spray cans with an internal / female valve. Tested examples include MTN, MTN 94, Montana Black / Montana line, Loop and Belton. Other brands can have small valve differences, so if the fit is tight, do not force it — use a tiny amount of neutral lubricant and test the alignment on a clean empty can first.

If it clogs, start with a proper solvent/acetone flush. For a thorough clean: flush once, let the solvent soften residue for about 30–60 minutes, then flush again. If there is still a click but weak or no spray, clean the output channel to the blockage/valve area with the thin needle while holding the button.

The most important thing is the internal paint channel — clean it thoroughly with acetone or cleaner. You can also clean the adjustment wheels, the main button and the Type-C port with acetone. If some liquid gets inside RoboCap during cleaning, it does not affect the electronics.

Yes — acetone, suitable solvent or cleaner spray is the normal cleaning route. For a thorough clean, flush once, let it soften residue for about 30–60 minutes, then flush again.

I like the concept. Once you purchase one how long do the batteries last? And can you purchase extra tips once you purchase the robo cap?

Current battery figure is up to about 6 hours per charge and around 30 minutes for a full charge. Important: the separate enlarged “tip packs / needle caps” sold on the website are a different product and do not fit RoboCap. The current RoboCap set itself includes about 250 RoboCap tips and 2 cleaning needles.

For durability: do not force RoboCap onto a tight valve and protect it from hard drops or side pressure. If the fit is tight, use a tiny amount of neutral lubricant and practice on a clean empty can first. Current price and ordering are here: https://myrobocap.com/sets.php

Current quick rule: do not mix water-based paint and nitro paint without flushing between them; do not leave paint drying inside for long-term storage; for a thorough clean use the two-stage solvent/acetone flush. If there is a click but weak/no spray, the output channel or tip is usually the first place to clean with the thin needle. If RoboCap sits crooked or leaks from the bottom, remove it and reinstall it straight rather than forcing it.
